The Gefürstete County Störnstein (earlier form of writing Sternstein ) was a rich immediate and since 1641 Gefürstete county of the Holy Roman Empire to Störnstein and Neustadt an der Waldnaab in today's Upper Palatinate .
history
The eponymous Sternstein Castle has been preserved as a ruin on the edge of Störnstein. Since the 12th century there has been documented evidence of this castle, which was located in the Nordgau (Bavaria) , north of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate in the emerging diocese of Regensburg on an old trade route to Bohemia . During this time it was the seat of the imperial knight Stöhr (also Stör, Stier, von Stöhren), a branch of the Lords of Murach , who built a manor around the castle, where there was a settlement of heirloom and robotic residents.
From the Stöhr the castle and rule of Störnstein came to the aristocratic family of the Pflugk von Rabstein and after this the nobles von Heydeck ( Heideck ) were owners of the rule Neustadt an der Waldnaab-Störnstein, which was affiliated as a crown fief to the kingdom of Bohemia since 1355 and was thus directly imperial. Because of their participation in the Schmalkaldischer Bund , the Heideck were expropriated. The Guttenstein- Vrtba followed as owners of the fief and the associated income.
Ladislav Popel von Lobkowitz, President of Appeal and Supreme Court Marshal of the Kingdom of Bohemia, received the rule from the Emperor (or from the Crown of Bohemia) in 1558 as a pledge, in 1562 as a fief and finally in 1575 as an inheritance. In 1641, Sternstein, together with Neustadt an der Waldnaab , Waldau, Waldthurn , Schönsee and a number of villages, became a princely imperial county in the hereditary possession of the Lobkowitz prince . The county became part of the Bavarian Empire . Since 1653 the Lobkowitz had a seat and vote in the Imperial Council of Princes and since 1742 also in the Bavarian Imperial Council. In 1806 the duchy imperial county of Störnstein was mediatized and in 1807 sold to the Kingdom of Bavaria with the administrative seat Neustadt an der Waldnaab .
