history
Until the 19th century
A document from 1124 mentions the Pressather's 200-year-old property. Pressath had market rights with important proprietary rights and had been the seat of a sub-office of the Waldeck-Kemnath office since 1280. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Pressath suffered from the frequent change of denomination of the sovereigns. Today's town of Pressath in the Upper Palatinate district later belonged to the Amberg Rent Office and the Waldeck Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . On January 20, 1845, King Ludwig I raised Pressath to the city.
The construction of the Weiden-Bayreuth railway line in 1863 and the Pressath-Kirchenthumbach local railway line in 1904 were important. In 1937, the new town hall could be occupied. In 1955 the 1000th anniversary was celebrated.
Incorporations
During the territorial reform in the 1970s, some surrounding communities were incorporated, for example on July 1, 1972, the Friedersreuth part of Altenparkstein and the Pfaffenreuth part of Schwand. In 1978, Riggau and the municipality of Hessenreuth followed the municipality of the same name on January 1st and Dießfurt (with Troschelhammer incorporated on April 1st, 1949) on May 1st. In 1975 the Pressath community was founded.
Religions
The baroque parish church of St. George is the spiritual center of the approximately 4,300 Catholics . The Protestant residents are looked after by the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Grafenwöhr. In Pressath there are regular services in the Altötting Chapel.
Altendorf, Döllnitz, Friedersreuth, Herzogspitz, Kahrmühle, Kohlhütte, Kreuzerhof, Mühlberg, Pfaffenreuth, Riggau , Schütt, Troschelhammer, Waldmühle, Wollau, Ziegelhütte and Zintlhammer belong to the town of Pressath and the parish of St. Georg in Pressath. The parish parts of Dießfurt and Eichelberg belong to the parish of Schwarzenbach, Hessenreuth and Tyrol to the parish of Kastl (near Kemnath) . Bärnwinkel, Fischgrub, Grub and Weihersberg, which politically belong to the municipality of Trabitz , belong to the parish of Pressath.
The pastoral care unit Pressath-Burkhardsreuth-Schwarzenbach was established a few years ago. The parishes are looked after by two priests, a deacon and a pastoral officer. The distinction in parishes is only important for church administration (register, etc.).
