Georg Alois Dietl

Georg Alois Dietl (born February 19, 1752 in Pressath ; † May 17, 1809 in Landshut ) was a German Jesuit and from 1801 professor at the University of Landshut .

Life

After attending grammar school in Amberg , Georg Alois Dietl was accepted into the Societas Jesu. From 1773 he studied Catholic theology in Ingolstadt . He was initially a village chaplain . In 1781, the Prince-Bishop of Regensburg granted him the curate of Maria Taferl in Lower Austria . He later became a pastor in Berg near Landshut and in 1786 caused the displeasure of church leaders through his confidante letters from a clergyman to his friend . Bishop Joseph Konrad von Schroffenberg-Mös stood up for him, but the letters remained forbidden. In 1801 Dietl became professor of aesthetics at the University of Landshut, which had moved from Ingolstadt . He also became pastor of St. Martin in Landshut.

The Prof. Dietl facility in Pressath is named after Georg Alois Dietl.
