The Ringer Bundesliga 2001 / 02 started with 20 clubs, each with 10 in the North and in the Südstaffel. As in the previous year, AV Germania Markneukirchen and KSV Germania Aalen were champions of the preliminary round . The champions of the two regional preliminary rounds were determined in a round-trip and a return round. The play-offs, for which the best four clubs of both seasons qualified, began on January 12, 2002 with the quarter-finals. In the end, the defending champion KSV Germania Aalen and the record champions VfK Schifferstadt cameinto the final round. KSV Germania Aalen was able to prevail in the two fights on February 17th and February 23rd, 2002. After a 10: 14.5 defeat in Schifferstadt, Aalen won the rematch 14: 9. So the overall result was 24: 23.5.

In the end, AV Germania Markneukirchen had one point more than the 1st Luckenwalder SC on the points account. In addition to Markneukirchen and Luckenwalde, the combat communities WKG Halle-Merseburg-Leuna and KG Greiz / Mohlsdorf qualified for the play-offs.

Season south
Aalen was the sovereign master of the southern season. The only point loss came from the away defeat at RWG Mömbris-Königshofen (10.5: 18.5). As in the previous year, KSV Köllerbach took second place behind Aalen. SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos and VfK Schifferstadt also qualified for the quarter-finals of the play-offs. The sad bottom of the league was KSV Wiesental , who couldn't get a point in the 18 fights.
