Djamel Ainaoui (born March 20, 1975 in Courrières , Pas-de-Calais , France ) is a French wrestler . In 1997 he was runner-up in the Greco-Roman style bantamweight European champion .

Career

Djamel Ainaoui, who is of North African descent, started wrestling as a teenager in 1983. His first club was a wrestling club in Libercourt and his first coach was Sebastian Chambinaud. He started in both styles when he was a junior, but from 1995 only worked in the Greco-Roman style. At a height of 1.69 meters, he wrestled in bantamweight for a long time as an adult and only switched to the next higher weight class, featherweight, towards the end of his career . After reaching the national elite in France, he moved to the top club US Créteil , which he belonged to until the end of his career. But he also wrestled for KSV Germania for several yearsBasking in the German Bundesliga. In the French national team he was trained by Patrice Mourier and Ghani Yalouz . He completed training as a sports teacher and educator.

In 1990, at the age of 15, he was the first French junior champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 47 kg body weight. By 1995 he had won five other French championship titles in the Greco-Roman style and one in the free style. For the first time French champion in the seniors he was in 1994, when he won this title in bantamweight (Greco-Roman style). He was also French champion in 1996 and 1997 in bantamweight and 2003 and 2005 in featherweight.

On the international level Djamel Ainaoui made his debut at the Junior World Championships 1992 (Cadets) in Cali / Colombia , where he achieved a good 5th place in the Greco-Roman. Style in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight. At three other world and European championships in the junior division, he achieved good placements in the front midfield until 1995. With a "bang" he started his international career with the seniors. In the following years, however, he was unable to repeat this success. However, he managed to qualify in tournaments in Faenza , Clermont-Ferrand and Tashkent for participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 . In Sydney he lost his first fight against the Chinese Sheng Zetiang and was only able to improve to 12th place with a victory over Alexander Stepanjan from Ukraine, according to the then strange regulations. He could not fight any further fights.

In 2001 Djamel Ainaoui achieved a good 5th place at the World Cup in Patras with victories over Arash Rayhaniasl, Netherlands, Juri Chabrow, Belarus , and Ivan Alexandrov, Israel, with a defeat by Dilschod Aripow from Uzbekistan. He achieved even greater success at the 2002 European Championships in Seinäjoki / Finland. He started there after a weight class reform by the international wrestling federation Fila in featherweight for the first time and came up with victories over Joaquin Martinez Abellan, Spain , Margel Pormann, Estonia and Eusebiu Diaconu , Romania , a defeat against Rustem Mambetow , Russia and another victory over Karen Mnazakanjan 3rd place and won his second international medal.

Djamel Ainaoui continued his wrestling career until 2005, but could no longer win a medal. For participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he could no longer qualify.
