history

The Neuhaus market was founded by Landgrave Johann I von Leuchtenberg in 1393. The Leuchtenbergers had been the owners of Neuhaus Castle since around 1300. In 1415, the Leuchtenbergers gave the Neuhausers city rights. In 1662 Neuhaus was almost completely destroyed by a lightning strike, only three houses were spared from the accident. Another devastating fire disaster occurred in 1887. However, the place including Agathakirche was rebuilt in the same year. On the occasion of the municipal reform , which came into force on January 1, 1972, Neuhaus was incorporated into the town of Windischeschenbach.
