Dieter Fuhrmann (* 1928 in Rostock ; † 2013 in Greifswald ) was a German painter and art teacher .

From 1946 to 1993 he worked as a teacher for art and German in the Greifswald district and later in the city of Greifswald. From 1990 to 2000 he was chairman of the Association of German Art Educators in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Until his retirement in 1993, Dieter Fuhrmann was mainly perceived as an exceptionally active art educator, less as an artist. His fame outside Greifswald was based primarily on his work as a co-initiator of the “Rostock District Specialist Camp”, a two-week art summer course for gifted children. In his own artistic work, Fuhrmann primarily focused on the northern German landscape. Stylistically, these works are reminiscent of French impressionists, to whom he also referred verbally. In contrast to the aforementioned models, however, his works of this time were dominated by cloudy, sometimes gloomy light and landscape situations. During this time he preferred painting with tempera paints. After 1993, when Fuhrmann devoted himself entirely to artistic creation, his style changed: his pictures became more expressive, the colors brighter, from now on he mostly painted with oil paints and acrylic paints.

In a television interview, the artist explained: “The German Expressionists, from Schmidt-Rottluff to Nolde and Franz Marc ... as well as French Impressionists, from Renoir to Monet , I really like to watch that because they deal so differently with color and that Reflecting the experience of nature so personally ... And that's exactly how it is for me, I experience nature and then try to give my own answer ... and since people have different sides and sometimes speak loudly and sometimes quietly, the pictures are sometimes loud and sometimes quietly."

In the 1990s, the works of the north German painter were sold by a gallery that was very well known at the time, the “Galerie am Lühedeich” in Grünendeich near Jork in the old country , just outside Hamburg. The gallery in the Elbmarschen represented numerous landscape painters. When it had to close its gates at Lühedeich at the end of 2001 because a lease had not been extended, the gallery selected Fuhrmann's works for its farewell exhibition.

The end of the exhibition in the Elbmarschen had serious consequences for Fuhrmann. After 2001, the artist never found a renowned gallery in the vicinity of a big city and his access to the supra-regional art market was forever lost. In return, Fuhrmann's fame increased in Western Pomerania, among other things through his participation in the annual cultural event "Art Open", in which visual artists from the Western Pomerania region open their studios for a day. During this time, Fuhrmann was perceived more and more as an identity-creating local painter, and regional media sought a conversation with him.
