Dieter Holzapfel

Dieter Holzapfel (born October 28, 1938 in Oldenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former Lord Mayor of his hometown.

Life

Holzapfel has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany since he was 18 (1956) and in 1964, at the age of 25, became the youngest member of the Oldenburg City Council at the time .

Holzapfel was trained as a Dipl. Court clerks involved in the administration of justice.

In June 1969 he was elected as chairman of the supervisory board of GSG Oldenburg (since 1990 GSG Oldenburg Bau- und Wohngesellschaft mbH ). He changed to the office of managing director of this company in March 1972 and held this position until 2004. His successor was Stefan Könner.

In 1991 he was elected Lord Mayor of Oldenburg . He was the last Lord Mayor of the city who had to work with a city ​​manager . After the 1996 election, he was succeeded by Jürgen Poeschel , who became the first mayor according to the single-track administrative system. Holzapfel lives in Oldenburg.

Volunteering

Holzapfel became President of the Oldenburg Regional Association of the German Red Cross in 2000 . He ended this voluntary work in June 2018 after 18 years. During this time he worked for several years as Chairman of the Presidential Council of the DRK at federal level. His successor was Karin Evers-Meyer . On the occasion of his departure from office he was appointed honorary president of his regional association. At the same event, Gerda Hasselfeldt , President of the German Red Cross, made him an honorary member of the German Red Cross.
