German Red Cross Regional Association Oldenburg
The German Red Cross Landesverband Oldenburg e. V. is a regional association of the German Red Cross (DRK) based in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) . Country manager is Daniela-Florina Udrea.
tasks
As a voluntary aid company for the German authorities in the humanitarian field, the association performs the tasks resulting from the Geneva Agreement of 1949 , its additional protocols and the DRK law .
These tasks include in particular:
- the dissemination of knowledge about international humanitarian law and the principles and ideals of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement ,
- participation in the medical service of the Bundeswehr including the use of hospital ships ,
- performing the tasks of an official information bureau ,
- arranging family correspondence.
history
The origin of the association is the association for the care of wounded warriors founded on January 2, 1864 in Oldenburg (Oldb.) And their successor organizations, such as B. the Oldenburg Regional Association of the Red Cross or the Oldenburg Red Cross . Historically, it is the second oldest National Red Cross Society in the world after the Württemberg Medical Association .
DRK state aid
From 1946 to 1949 a special organization was active in Oldenburg under the care of the DRK regional association Oldenburg: the "DRK-Landeshilfe (Association of War Disabled, War Widows and Orphans)". The tasks and objectives of this DRK state aid corresponded to the tasks of the Red Cross:
- “That is why the Oldenburg regional association has created its own organization in the state aid which, like the eight district associations and the sisterhood, is a member of the regional association and is supervised by it. Works hand in hand with the regional and district associations and with them strives to remedy the plight of the war invalids and the widows and orphans of the fallen as far as possible. "
In 1948, two “welfare blocks ” designed by Walter Müller-Wulckow were issued by the DRK State Aid. Each block of 2.50 RM contained four vignettes with no separate nominal value information with known Oldenburg buildings from the eight DRK district associations that existed at the time:
- Block A: the one-room house (Vechta district), the buildings of the Brake port (Wesermarsch), the church in Altenoythe (Cloppenburg district), the church in Zwischenahn (Ammerland district)
- Block B: the castle of Jever and Oldenburg, the linoleum factory Delmenhorst and the town hall of Wilhelmshaven.
Although the approval of these blocks (edition: block A 54,231 pieces, block B 21,725 pieces) was initially available by the Reichspostdirektion Bremen, they were only sold outside the postal area due to an objection by the Allied Control Council.

The territory of the DRK regional association Oldenburg is congruent with the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg and later the administrative district of Oldenburg . It is divided into the ten DRK district associations:

The Oldenburg Sisterhood of the Red Cross , based in Sande, maintains a DRK retirement and nursing home in Oldenburg. The DRK sisterhood “Übersee” is also based in the area of the DRK regional association (Wilhelmshaven).
Facilities
In addition to the regional office, the association also operates the DRK-Nordsee-Kurzentrum Friesland , the DRK-Villa Kunterbunt Wangerooge and the DRK-Senioren-Wohnanlage Oldenburg.
In addition, the association is affiliated with the Toto-Lotto-Stiftung Hannover in a civil society and manages a nursing home in Oldenburg.
Together with the DRK regional associations of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Bremen, the DRK regional association Oldenburg is a partner in the DRK blood donation service NSTOB .

Badge of honor
The DRK regional association in Oldenburg has been awarding the DRK regional association's badge of honor for services to the regional and district associations since 1975. It was donated by the board of directors of the DRK regional association on August 12, 1975. It is a round, white enameled plaque with a red cross and a red Madaillon ring, inside silver inscription "GERMAN ROTES CROSS", outside blue tape with silver inscription "LANDESVERBAND OLDENBURG". The back is smooth-silver. Size in diameter: 2.2 cm; Total height: 5 cm. The first to be awarded was Anton Günther Herzog von Oldenburg "in grateful recognition of his services to the Oldenburg Regional Association".
For their work in the refugee crisis in Germany from 2015 onwards, around 300 volunteers from the Oldenburg district associations were awarded a badge of honor on August 8, 2016 by the Lower Saxony Minister of Social Affairs Cornelia Rundt and DRK President Dieter Holzapfel . It is a round, blue badge with a red cross, each with gold writing at the top "Refugee Aid 2015/2016" and at the bottom "DRK-LV Oldenburg". Size in diameter: 1.5 cm; Total height: 5.5 cm. The men's version has a long needle; the women's version has a small safety pin.
Since 2017, the association has been awarding a newly established Medal of Merit. It is awarded in one class as a pin and bears the Red Cross on a white background in the middle, a matt gold laurel wreath on the outside, and in between the words "OLDENBURGISCHES ROTES KREUZ" in matt gold.
Award
On the occasion of its 125th anniversary in 1989, the DRK regional association in Oldenburg received the Henry Dunant plaque donated by the DRK federal association . This approximately 10 cm large plaque made of Meissen porcelain bears, next to a portrait of Henry Dunant , the inscription "125 years in the service of humanity".
On March 14, 2017, the regional association was also awarded the Henry Dunant plaque donated to mark the 150th anniversary of the DRK by the President of the DRK, Rudolf Seiters . It differs only in the inscription "150 YEARS IN THE SIGN OF HUMANITY".
