Haindl Foundation Houses
The Haindl'schen Stiftungshäuser formed a small factory housing estate for the workers and employees of the Haindl'schen paper mills (now part of UPM-Kymmene ). It consisted of four apartment buildings that were built in 1880 not far from the factory. The site of the former Klauckeschen Weißbleiche in front of the Oblatterwall was acquired by the Georg-und-Elise-Haindl'schen Foundation as a building site.
The residential buildings, designed by city building officer Leybold, were arranged in an open design and appear as two-storey plastered buildings with gables . There were small kitchen gardens on the back of the building. With their appearance they differed from the unadorned architectural style of other factory settlements in Augsburg.
The foundation houses, which have been preserved in full to this day, became known through Bertolt Brecht . Brecht's father, Berthold Friedrich Brecht, was an authorized signatory at Haindl and lived with his family in the foremost of the four foundation houses.
