Factory colony (Augsburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The factory colony was a settlement of the mechanical weaving mill on Siebenbrunnenbach. It was located right next to the weaving mill in the Augsburg district of Siebenbrunn and consisted of several two-story residential buildings and an inn "To the seven fountains". Together with the weaving mill, the factory colony formed the so-called “Unterdorf” of Siebenbrunn. The inhabitants of the factory colony were also called "factory workers".

In 1977 the city council decided that the area should be demolished in order to protect the nearby drinking water wells. The demolition and the reforestation then took place until 1980, so that no significant traces of the former Unterdorf can be seen today.
