Dieter Jähnig

Dieter Jähnig (born March 14, 1926 in Leipzig ; † November 12, 2016 ) was a German philosopher and art historian .

Life

Jähnig studied since 1947 a. a. with Bernhard Schweitzer and archeology and art history in Leipzig and Tübingen. In 1956 he received his doctorate with the Germanist Friedrich Beißner at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen with a thesis on Friedrich Hölderlin's Homburg essays . In 1968 he completed his habilitation, also in Tübingen, with a thesis on Schelling's philosophy of art. From 1974 to 1988 he was professor of philosophy in Tübingen.

In addition to his research on Hölderlin and German idealism , especially on Schelling, Jähnig mainly dealt with questions of aesthetics , art philosophy and art theory. He was particularly interested in the interrelationships between art / poetry and history. In addition to the philosophy of history and the preoccupation with non-European cultures, the examination of the philosophy of Martin Heidegger formed a focus of his scientific work.
