Dieter Jahn (biologist)

Dieter Jahn (born August 1, 1959 in Jesberg , Hessen ) is a German biochemist and microbiologist . He is Professor of Microbiology at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

Life

Dieter Jahn studied biology from 1978 to 1984 and obtained his doctorate from 1984 to 1987 with Peter Karlson at the Institute for Molecular Biology and Tumor Research at the University of Marburg . Between 1988 and 1992 he was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University in Dieter Söll's group . From 1992 to 1996 he was a university assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the Laboratory for Microbiology at the University of Marburg.

From 1996 to 2000 Jahn was Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Freiburg . Since July 2000 he has been a professor at the Institute for Microbiology at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Since October 1, 2012, he has been Vice President Research and Young Scientists in the Presidium of the Technical University of Braunschweig. In December 2016 he was elected President of the Technical University of Hamburg. For personal reasons, however, he will not take up this office.

Structure and function of enzymes of tetrapyrrole biosynthesis , gene regulation of Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa , vitamin B 12 formation in Bacillus megaterium .
