Dieter Müller (entrepreneur)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dieter Müller (* 1954 ) is a German entrepreneur and hotelier.

Müller trained as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk at BMW . In 1975 he switched to the hotel industry and worked for the French Accor Group, which is represented worldwide with the Etap , Ibis and Novotel brands . From 1980 he was CFO for the markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 1984 he became CEO of Accor Gastronomie AG in Düsseldorf . After twelve years at Accor, Müller started his own business. Together with John F. Herminghaus, at the time the head of Accor in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, he took over three unbranded Accor hotels in 1987 and formed Astron Hotels , the third largest city hotel group in Germany.

In 1993 he took over the position of CEO. It turned out that there was a lack of financial strength for international growth. The national market became narrow, and the competition from competitors increased. The hotels also did not differ significantly from those of the competitors.

In 2000 he founded the low budget hotel chain Motel One . In 2002, Müller initiated the sale of Astron Hotels with 54 hotels and over 8,000 rooms to the Spanish NH group for a purchase price of 95 million euros. Since then, Müller has concentrated on building up the low-budget design hotel brand Motel One.

In 2009, Müller received the “Hotelier of the Year” industry award.
