Dieter Michalek

Dieter Michalek (born June 23, 1937 in Berlin ) is a former German table tennis player . From the mid-1950s to the early 1960s he was one of the best German table tennis players. He was twice German champion in doubles and once in mixed.

National successes

Michalek came to Mörfelden from East Berlin in 1946. Most of his career as a competitive athlete he played at TTC Mörfelden , namely from 1953 to 1968 with a one-year break when he joined Hamburger SV in 1963 and studied insurance science in Hamburg. With Mörfelden he was German team champion four times from 1955 to 1957 and 1960. In 1962 he became German university champion in Münster by winning the final over Eberhard Schöler . At the national German championships he won the title together with Erich Arndt in 1962 and 1963. In mixed he won in 1960 with Hannelore Schlaf . In 1962 and 1964 he was runner-up in the individual, behind Eberhard Schöler. In 1962 he won the national ranking tournament . In the German rankings he took third place in 1962 and 1964.

After the end of his career as a competitive athlete, Michalek played in the lower classes, first from 1976 to 1987 at SC Olympia Lorsch, then at TTC Lampertheim (until 1988) and after a break from 2001 at TTV Topspin Lorsch.

International success

Michalek made 19 international matches. He was first used in November 1960 against Austria, where he won two singles and lost one. At the European Championships in Berlin in 1962 , he reached the second round in singles, the quarterfinals in doubles and the semi-finals with the team. At the 1963 World Cup he won bronze with the German team.

He won doubles titles in 1961 with Hans Wilhelm Gäb at the International Championships in the Netherlands and in 1962 with Erich Arndt at the International Championships in Sweden. In mixed he won the 1961 International German Championships with Agnes Simon .

Private

Michalek acquired the commercial assistant letter in 1961 .
