Dieter Waldeis (* 1946 ) is a German master gardener .

Life

Dieter Waldeis is a master gardener specializing in ornamental plants . Since he started his career, he has been intensively involved in cactus science . From 1980 to 1990 Waldeis headed the local group of the cactus friends in Aschaffenburg and the surrounding area of ​​the German Cactus Society as 1st chairman . From 1980 he traveled to central and northern Mexico. He worked with the Czech cactus researcher Otakar Sadovský . He was interested in researching the genera Turbinicarpus and Epithelantha . He also dealt with the section Echinocereus sect. Wilcoxia of the genus Echinocereus . Waldeis visited the individual locations of the different species. In 2008 he made his knowledge available to the Echinocereus group and helped to create the book on the Wilcoxia section with Wolfgang Blum and Dieter Felix .

Erich Haugg named the species Echinocereus waldeisii after him .
