Diethelm Bessert

Diethelm Bessert (born December 22, 1955 ) is a German table tennis player . He was GDR champion five times.

Career

Bessert played for SV Stahl Finow in the 1970s . Around 1980 he competed for the Eberswalde locomotive . and in the mid-1980s for WBK Erfurt . At the time of the fall of the Wall, around 1990, he played with Thüringen-Bandstahl GmbH Bad Salzungen in the GDR Oberliga.

In 1974 he won the GDR individual championship in Erfurt. Together with Hartmut Vierk , he was four times GDR champion in doubles, namely 1985 to 1987 and 1990.

In 2003 he reached the final of the German senior championship over 40 with Thomas Ogunrinde . Until 2005 he played at TTZ Sponeta Erfurt , then he moved to SV Schott Jenaer Glas , with whose men's team he became champion of the Thuringia League in 2007. This entitled to promotion to the league.

Private

Diethelm Bessert's brother Siegmar was also one of the top players in the former GDR.
