Dietmar Eberle (born October 31, 1952 in Hittisau ) is an Austrian architect .

biography

Eberle studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna from 1973 and completed his diploma under Anton Schweighofer in 1978 . After completing his studies, he spent two years working in Tehran , where he is engaged in an urban development study and new town planning .

Eberle belongs to a group of young architects who studied in Vienna in the 1970s and returned to Vorarlberg in the 1980s to build there. He is one of the co-founders of the Vorarlberg building artists .

While still a student, he founded the Cooperative Construction and Planning Company (1979–1982) together with Markus Koch, Norbert Mittersteiner and Wolfgang Juen in 1979. The Im Fang project sends an important signal during this period . It is a sign of “a new, alternative building”.

In 1982 the office Eberle Egger was founded, from 1985 the collaboration with Carlo Baumschlager as the architecture office Baumschlager Eberle . The office is considered a successful architecture office in Austria, which was initially active in Vorarlberg and is now realizing projects in Europe and Asia. Eberle formulated the specifics of the office's architecture as follows: “Architecture in the sense of building art means abstracting the actual utility value onto a cultural level. In addition to the specific demands on a building, a space opens up for the cultural positioning of architecture and for individual visions. The architect's responsibility lies in the high binding of resources and the temporal dimension of the social significance of the city and building. Personal creativity does not relieve the architect of his responsibility to society. "

The Baumschlager Eberle architecture office is a network of international offices that Dietmar Eberle runs together with eleven other partners. You are represented worldwide with twelve locations in eight different countries in Europe and Asia and have realized well over 400 buildings.

Eberle has been teaching continuously at various universities since the 1980s. Among other things, he was visiting professor in Hanover, Vienna, Linz, Syracuse (NY) and Darmstadt. In addition, he taught in Madrid, Jerusalem, Hong Kong and Barcelona.

He has been a full professor of architecture and design at ETH Zurich since 1999 and headed the ETH-Wohnforum until 2015. From 2003 to 2006 he was head of the architecture department. He has now retired.
