Dietmar Mathias

Dietmar Mathias (born November 16, 1940 in Gassen ) is a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar.

Life

After graduating from high school in Cottbus in 1959 , Dietmar Mathias studied physics in Dresden from 1959 to 1962 and theology in Leipzig from 1962 to 1966 . In 1966 he passed the theological state examination (first theological examination) and then completed a year-long research course in Leipzig. Since 1968 he has been employed there as a temporary assistant, since 1972 as permanent assistant, since 1978 as permanent senior assistant in the subject of the Old Testament and responsible for teaching Old Testament courses, and from 1971 to 1984 also for teaching Hebrew. In 1978 he received his doctorate with the thesis "The history of chronicle research in the 19th century with special consideration of the exegetical treatment of the prophetic news of the chronistic historical work".

From 1979 to 1980, in addition to his work at the theological faculty, he completed the vicariate in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony and passed the second theological exam in Dresden in November 1980. In 1981 he was ordained. From 1980 to 1983 he was head of the study department of the theology section. In 1985 he acquired the Facultas Docendi and has been giving main Old Testament lectures since the spring semester of 1987. In 1987 he took part in the teaching course of the German Evangelical Institute for Archeology of the Holy Land. In 1989 he was awarded a PhD “The Theology of History of the History Summaries in the Psalms”. sc. theol. PhD. The title was transferred to that of Dr. theol. habil. convicted. In 1990 he became a research assistant and in 1993 an adjunct professor. From 1994 to 1996 he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Theology. In 2005 he retired.
