Dietmar Pfeifer (mathematician)

Dietmar Pfeifer (born March 17, 1953 in Wuppertal ) is a German mathematician and university professor . His work focuses on statistical methods of insurance and financial mathematics .

Life

Pfeifer studied mathematics with a minor in economics at RWTH Aachen University . After completing his diploma course in 1977, he received his doctorate in 1980 from the university. After completing his habilitation four years later, he went to the United States . Initially visiting professor at the University of North Carolina , he received a research grant from the DFG and was also a visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Indiana University .

In 1987 Pfeifer accepted a call from the University of Oldenburg and until 1995 held the professorship for "Mathematization of Economics". From 1991 he also worked as a lecturer at the Oldenburger Münsterland University of Cooperative Education. In 1995 he moved to the University of Hamburg , where he took over the chair for actuarial mathematics. In 2000 he returned to the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and was given the chair for applied probability theory .

From 1997 he worked as a scientific advisor for the reinsurance broker Jauch & Hübener (later AON and AON Benfield). In 2002, Pfeifer took over the management of the actuarial team of the associated reinsurer Aon Re Europe for two years . Since 2006 he has been a member of the supervisory board of Mutual Insurance from Oldenburg.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the German Society for Insurance and Financial Mathematics , on whose board he was represented until 2007. Between 2005 and 2007 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the German Actuarial Association , for which he worked as a lecturer from 2007 to 2013. In 2009 he became head of the ASTIN specialist group of the DAV together with Roland Voggenauer .

Pfeifer has been retired since October 1st, 2016.
