Dikran Tschuchadschjan ( Armenian Տիգրան Չուխաճեան / Չուխաջյան , Eastern Armenian Tigran Tschuchatschjan , Turkish Dikran Çuhacıyan1837 in Constantinople Opel ; † 11. March 1898 in Smyrna ) was an Armenian opera composer.

Born the son of a watchmaker, because of his musicality, he was sent to the Conservatory in Milan , where he familiarized himself with Italian opera . Tschuchadschjan is considered to be the first Armenian opera composer and thus helped shape the Armenian musical tradition. He founded an Armenian music society dedicated to the musical education of the Constantinople Armenians. He orientated himself strongly to European standards in his works. Tschuchajjan made a major contribution to the spread of opera music typical of Europe in the Middle East . Through his artistic influence, Tschuchajjan, who was not a friend of Turkish rule, promoted national awareness and pride in Armenian art .

His opera Arshak II is considered the first Armenian example of this musical genre. The work was composed in 1868, but only rediscovered in the 20th century and premiered in Yerevan in 1945 .

Another of his operas, Leblebiji Hor-Hor Agha from 1875, was not premiered until December 25, 2004 in the United States by the Ardavazt Theater Company and the Lark Musical Society.
