Dilip Kumar Chakrabarti (born April 27, 1941 ) is an Indian archaeologist and professor of South Asian archeology at the University of Cambridge . He is known for his studies of the early use of iron in India.

Life

Chakrabarti began his career between 1965 and 1977 as a lecturer in archeology at the University of Calcutta . He was a lecturer in archeology at the University of Delhi from 1977 to 1990 . In 1990 he moved to the University of Cambridge and became a professor there. He has also been nominated as a member of the ICHR (Indian Council of Historical Research) and is editor of an academic journal for this institute ( Indian Historical Review ).
