Dimitrie Eustatievici

Dimitrie Eustatievici (* 1730 in Brașov ; † May 27, 1795 ibid) was a Romanian theologian, educator, Romanist and grammarian.

life and work

Dimitrie Eustatievici (who also called himself Braşoveanul = "Kronstadt") studied theology and philology in Kiev and graduated in 1753. He returned to Kronstadt in 1755 , became a grammar school teacher, was secretary to the Metropolitan from 1762 to 1785, and in 1786 assumed a leading position in the school system.

Eustatievici completed the first Romanian grammar on September 1, 1757 (with a dedication to Constantin Mavrocordat ), which, although it was not printed until 1969, circulated as a manuscript until the end of the 19th century and was widely used, especially by Franz Josef Sulzer for his grammaticals Treatise from 1782, which in turn was available to Friedrich Diez for his grammar of the Romance languages .
