Dimitrios Yatromanolakis

Dimitrios Yatromanolakis (Greek Δημήτριος Γιατρομανωλάκης) is a cultural historian and Graecist who has specialized in ancient Greek art and archeology (especially vase painting and vase inscriptions). He also specializes in Historical and Comparative Anthropology. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Classics, Department of Anthropology and The Humanities Center at Johns Hopkins University , Baltimore , Maryland , USA .

Life

After studying Greek and Roman Classical Archeology at the Universities of Athens and Oxford and papyrology with Peter J. Parsons (University of Oxford), which he received with a Ph.D. Yatromanolakis was initially a junior fellow of the Society of Fellows at Harvard University . During his postgraduate degree, his studies extended to Cultural Anthropology, with a focus on Historical and Comparative Anthropology. Yatromanolakis is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology and The Humanities Center . He has been awarded numerous international prestigious fellowships, including the Berlin Prize .

Research priorities

Yatromanolakis works in the fields of archaic, classical and Hellenistic performance cultures from an anthropological perspective, vase painting and vase inscriptions, Greek papyrology and epigraphy as well as historical and comparative anthropology , especially ritual poetics . Further interests concern the ancient Greek dialectology , the language and culture of the Lydians , the pre-Socratic and the Platonic philosophy.
