Dina cymbalist

Dina Cymbalist , also Dina Stern , (* 1900 or February 28, 1907 , † April 1989 ) was a Russian-Jewish artist.

Life

Dina Cymbalist was the daughter of Sarah and Samuel Cymbalist. Her father worked as a lithographer at Schreiber-Verlag . Dina Cymbalist grew up in the Eßlinger Schillerstrasse. From 1923 to 1926 she studied with Theophil Aeckerle at the Stuttgart Art Academy . She participated in several exhibitions and gave painting and drawing lessons.

Dina Cymbalist emigrated to the USA with her parents in 1938. There she married Hugo Stern († 1970), who also emigrated from Germany and worked as a resident doctor in Syracuse (New York) from 1940 . The marriage resulted in two children, daughter Judy born in 1943 and son Samuel Michael born in 1949.

From November 9th to December 21st, 2008, works by Dina Cymbalists and other artists of the so-called Degenerate Art by the National Socialists were exhibited in the Esslingen District Office under the title “Ban - because degenerate” .

1. ↑ According to the Esslinger Stadtmuseum and passenger list of Norddeutscher Lloyd, Dina Cymbalist was born in 1907, but the DNB puts her birth in 1900.

According to a biographical note in the Esslingen city museum, however, she is said to have married the doctor Siggi Stern as early as the early 1930s and emigrated to the USA with him in 1938.
