On the occasion of the 275th birthday of Georg Christoph Lichtenberg , his physical instruments and his written estate were exhibited. The attempt was made, Lichtenberg not to his famous aphorisms on the one hand or to his effect as an experimental physiciston the other hand, to reduce, but to convey the variety of his observations, interests and achievements. Lichtenberg was shown "as an exemplary personality of a scientist and academic teacher of the 18th century". The exhibition was a “step towards the knowledge forum”, the “future knowledge museum of the University of Göttingen”.

concept

In the exhibition, the exhibits were presented as concrete things with Lichtenberg's world of thought and abstract ideas as well as with his practical actions in the context of object, idea and practice. In addition to the classic wall showcases, there were table showcases in the shape of a house: they incorporated “small retreats” into the historic university church, which stands for the academic world in the city of Göttingen, like those used by Lichtenberg in his gardens and summer houses. The exhibition was divided into four chapters: The first part, " Enlightenment (s)", placed Lichtenberg in the context of this multifaceted epoch and showed how he reflected the innovations of that time in pictures and text. The “Knowledge Institutions” section was devoted to various institutions such as learned societies , societies and academies that were important for Lichtenberg. The physical instruments and technical devices were the focus of a further part as “knowledge things”; and the chapter “Lebenswelten” showed how the perception of the outside through the human senses as well as the analytical observation of the inside determined the research and everyday life of this scholar.
