Lichtenberg Society

The Lichtenberg Society e. V. is a German-speaking literary society . It has set itself the goal of cultivating and spreading the memory of the physicist and philosopher Georg Christoph Lichtenberg .

history

The company was founded on October 2, 1977 at Lichtenberg's birthplace in Ober-Ramstadt . Its aim is to research Lichtenberg's literary and scientific work in the context of the history of culture and science in the second half of the 18th century and to visualize Lichtenberg's impact on contemporaries and its aftermath. The society has 270 members (as of 2010).

activities

Annual working conferences with lectures, seminars, discussions and exhibitions have been held since 1977 on the weekend after Lichtenberg's birthday, July 1st, in Ober-Ramstadt, in Göttingen and elsewhere. The results of the Lichtenberg research are summarized in the Lichtenberg yearbook , which has been published regularly since 1989 (from 1977 to 1988 the magazine Photorin ). A festive event took place on July 1, 2017 in Göttingen to mark Lichtenberg's 275th birthday.

The society maintains a website and also supports the Lichtenberg research centers at the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen and at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where Ulrich Joost is preparing a comprehensive, historical-critical, annotated complete edition of Lichtenberg's works entitled " Collected Writings " , of which four volumes of the " Lectures on Natural Science " have been published (as of 2010).
