A dance carillon is a musical instrument that can be played with the feet . It consists of nine bronze floor tiles with mechanical sound elements and its sound is reminiscent of a carillon .

description

The nine bronze floor tiles are arranged in a square and are usually anchored in the floor. The tones are generated by a hammer mechanism inside, which the player activates by hopping, jumping or dancing on the tiles. The dance glockenspiel is tuned pentatonic and single notes and melodies as well as chords can be played on it. The sound is like a bell.

history

The dance chimes were invented and designed by Alfons van Leggelo in the 1970s. It should relate the movement of walking directly to sound. The bronze instrument works in a similar way to the carillon . Dance chimes have already been installed in many places around the world, including in HafenCity in Hamburg , in the historic Nikolaivorstadt in Görlitz am Stadtsee in Bad Waldsee , in Maximilianpark in Hamm , on Museumplein in Amsterdam and in schools for mentally or physically disabled children .
