Diomedes Díaz
Diomedes Díaz Maestre (born May 26, 1957 in San Juan del Cesar , † December 22, 2013 in Valledupar ), also known as El Cacique de la Junta , was a Colombian singer and composer of Vallenato music.
biography
Diomedes Díaz was born on May 26, 1957 in the Colombian province of La Guajira . He made his breakthrough in 1978 with La Locura . With around 20 million copies sold, Diomedes Díaz is the musician with the highest number of albums sold in the history of Colombia. In 2010 he won a Latin Grammy in the Cumbia / Vallenato category . He had particular success not only in his home country in Venezuela , but also in other countries in Latin America. His most famous songs are his own compositions Tres canciones , Bonita , Mi primera cana and Sin ti , as well as the Sin medir distancias , Tú eres la reina , Amarte más no puedo , Todo es para ti , Lo más bonito , Lluvia de, written by other composers verano and La Juntera .
Diomedes Díaz was sentenced to twelve years' imprisonment for manslaughter in 1997, which was later reduced to six years. He was released on parole after three and a half years.
On December 22, 2013, Díaz died of cardiac arrest. His last album, La Vida del Artista , was released a few days before his death.
