Dionysios İsa Gürbüz

Patriarchal Vicar Mor Dionysios İsa Gürbüz (* 1964 in Kfarze , Turkey ) is the incumbent Syrian Orthodox Patriarchal Vicar of the Diocese of Switzerland & Austria .

Life

After attending the Turkish high school in Midyat , he became a monk in the Mor Gabriel monastery in 1985 . From 1989 he taught Syriac and liturgy at the Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary in Damascus . He was ordained a priest in 1991 and appointed seminary spiritual in 1993. In 1996 he received the episcopal ordination and worked as secretary of the Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I. Iwas . From 1997 to 2006 he was the first Syrian Orthodox bishop (patriarchal vicar) for Germany.

Since February 2006, Mor Dionysios İsa Gürbüz has been looking after the Syrian Orthodox communities in Switzerland and Austria, where the number of Syrian Orthodox Christians is estimated at 15,000. In Germany, his successor was Mor Julius Hanna Aydın .

From the end of 2018 until Gabriel Danho Dahho's episcopal ordination on April 10, 2019, Gürbüz took over the temporary leadership of the Patriarchal Vicariate Jerusalem , Jordan & Holy Land .

Political positions

In an article in the Swiss “ Tages-Anzeiger ” dated April 14, 2016, Gürbüz is quoted as warning of a future Islamic “ Eurabia ”: “In 20 or 30 years there will be a Muslim majority in Europe. Half of European women will then wear a hijab ”. Islam's agenda has always remained the same, namely to drive Christians out of the Middle East. "What is happening in the Middle East today will also happen here in Europe".
