Dionysius of Corinth
Dionysius of Corinth was Bishop of Corinth around 170 .
In his letter to the Nicomedians, Dionysius combats Markionite teachings. In his letter to the community of Amastris he addresses the problem of the "apostates" ( lapsi ), in the letter to Knossos he writes about marriage and sexual abstinence. His letter to the Roman community attests to their high reputation as early as the 2nd century and also to the 1 Clem . Fragments of his works have come down to us from Eusebius of Caesarea .
Dionysius is venerated as a saint , his feast day is April 8th. In the orthodox tradition he is listed as a martyr, while the Roman acts of martyrdom call Dionysius a confessor of the faith, but not a martyr. The relics of Dionysius were first brought from Corinth to Rome . Pope Innocent III then gave the prior of Saint-Denis in 1215 relics of a St. Dionysius, although it is unclear whether it is that of Dionysius of Corinth or that of Dionysius Areopagita .
