Diplom-Pädagoge (Abbreviation Dipl.-Päd. ) Is the term used in Germany for university graduates who have completed an educational degree in various human sciences with the academic degree of a diploma .

University education

In Germany, the courses have been converted to the international bachelor / master system , which means that degrees are awarded less and less. In Austria, the designation is a diploma that was awarded after completing a vocational education or pedagogical academy (transferred to pedagogical universities from October 1, 2007) with completion of at least six semesters of study (180 ECTS ) (see Austrian Federal Law Gazette II No. 2 / 2000).

At most German universities, the standard course to become a qualified teacher lasted ten semesters, with a preliminary diploma being required after four semesters. The first state examination of a teacher training course (university) or a bachelor's degree in communication sciences can replace the preliminary diploma with restrictions and prepare for entry into the six-semester main course.

Depending on the university's focus, the course integrates neighboring disciplines such as psychology , sociology , psychoanalysis , and philosophy . Furthermore, one of the fields of study such as school pedagogy , social pedagogy , curative and special education , adult and advanced training and geragogy is chosen in the main course. At some universities, various subject extensions can be studied, for example in the subject didactics of economics / politics or the like.

A title such as Diplom-Instrumental-Pädagoge / in can also be acquired at artistic universities. Areas of activity are then in the music pedagogical area, especially teaching a musical instrument.
