Dirk Olzen

Dirk Olzen (born May 15, 1949 in Wuppertal ) is a German lawyer and professor emeritus at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

Life and work

In 1967 Olzen participated in the Ruhr-University Bochum the study of jurisprudence on. For the period of the basic military service he interrupted it in 1968/69 for 18 months and graduated in 1973 with the first state examination in law. He passed his exam at the Hamm Higher Regional Court . In 1975 he received his doctorate from the Ruhr University in Bochum on the subject of "The importance of 'economic property' for liability under private law". In 1977 he passed his second state examination in law at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court .

At the Ruhr University in Bochum he completed his habilitation under the supervision of Hermann Dilcher in 1983 with the topic "The anticipated succession". Then 1983/84 was a professor at the Ruhr University Bochum. From 1984 to 1994 Olzen was a university professor at the University of Hamburg . From 1989 to 1994 he was managing director of the Institute for Civil Law and Basic Civil Law Research.

From the summer semester of 1994 to 2014, Olzen was a university professor at the Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf , where he played a key role in establishing the law faculty. From 1998 to 2000 he was their dean and from April 1999 director of the Institute for Legal Matters in Medicine.

Since 1989 he has been co-editor of the Juristische Rundschau .

In May 2014, the Israeli University Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya awarded him the title of Honorary Fellow .

Olzen is married and has four children.
