Diskwars (English spelling Disk Wars ) is a so-called trading card game , in which the course of the game can be significantly influenced by the number and variation of the available cards (disks). The player goes into a fantasy world around dwarves , elves , dragons & Co. and puts together his armies from these peoples according to the rules. The goal of the game is defined by the players themselves. It can be about simply destroying all enemy units with tactical finesse, or fulfilling a constructed order. Essentially, however, the action is mostly influenced by the combat strength or the special abilities of the disks used, which thus basically represent a form of military units.
The units consist of round, printed cardboard cards in various sizes (approx. 2–10 cm in diameter), which provide information about the disposition, the combat strength (attack, defense, vitality), the range of motion, as well as various special abilities (for example Unity can fly, magicians, berserkers).
The manufacturer originally wanted to achieve a lively exchange of cards with special abilities, but the game has hardly caught on in Europe and was only continued in the United States of America. The production was also stopped there after the 4th expansion in 2001. Only the basic sets and the first expansion (Moon over Thelgrim, 1999 ( USA )) have been published in German.
Basically you can purchase the eight first named races directly by buying sets. In each set there are 7 sheets with disks, only 4 of which belong to the acquired race and the other three consist of random combinations of all races. The latter two races (Mahkim and K'Ryth) can only be acquired in the random part of the sets or by swap.
people
Knight
The knights represent the human race in this game, which usually has known skills without too many special features. The units are relatively cheap. The strength lies in the interaction of the discs. For example, simple soldiers are relatively expensive, but not strong, but with the support of other disks and their special abilities (for example standard bearer, sergeant, general) they become first-class hand-to-hand fighters.
Elves
The elves have their main focus in magic and in the use of ranged combat units (for example archers). There are also some flying units and tree creatures, so-called Ents , who fight in their ranks. Several strong cavalry units were added in the later editions.
Dwarfs
Dwarfs are tough warriors here, who have particularly high defensive values, but move only slowly. They only develop their special skills from the "Broken Shadows" expansion.
Dragons
With the dragons, the fireballs represent an essential offensive potential, which results in a strong armed force through the use of magic and a long range of the units. Most units have the ability to "fly" and are very fast.
Orcs
The orcs are an offensively oriented army that can hold nasty surprises in store in close combat. Often the units destroy themselves, but also inflict great damage on the enemy.
living Dead
The undead offer experienced players the opportunity to use the interaction between different units and involve the opponent in surprising skirmishes. Warning: some undead live up to their name and come back into the game after being destroyed.
Acolytes
The Acolytes are a basically human desert people à la 1001 Nights and are strongly oriented towards the use of magic. The average troops are very expensive and have poor combat values. For very experienced players, the many, sometimes complex, special skills offer a wide range of possibilities to overcome the opponent.
Uthuk
The Uthuk are a neglected human race who have developed special talents through the use of drugs. The army is generally more aggressive and quick.
Mahkim
From the first expansion (moon over Thelgrim) this new race is available. However, they cannot be purchased in the form of a set, but the units can only be found in the randomly generated tableaus (so-called "flats"). The Mahkim are swamp creatures who clearly have their strength in close combat. They also have relatively strong special skills.
K'Ryth
From the second expansion (Wastelands) this people is available. This faction, like the Mahkim, can only be put together using the random discs in the army sets. This is a race of demons living in the wasteland with an exclusively evil disposition. The K'Ryth have redefined the game of mass armies.
