Renata Schumann
Renata Schumann (civil: Renata Schumann-Rotscheidt ; born January 12, 1934 in Hindenburg OS ; † February 1, 2012 in Bad Doberan ) was a German writer who wrote historical novels, short stories and poetry as well as essays and journalistic texts.
Life
Renata Schumann lived in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1983. As a child she lost both parents at the end of the war and initially remained under the care of her grandmother in her homeland, which had become Polish. This shaped her later work.
She studied Polish literature and earned her doctorate in 1979 at the German Institute of the University of Wroclaw with a doctoral thesis on the image of German in Polish literature. She then taught German literature at the Silesian University in Katowice . She was the mother of two children.
After moving to Germany, Renata Schumann settled near Düsseldorf , married a second time and began working as a journalist, primarily for the Rheinische Post and cultural and political correspondence. She made her debut as a writer with a volume of short stories in 1992. She lived in Erkrath near Düsseldorf and from 2000 in Bad Doberan near Rostock .
