Distelbeck is a locality in the mountainous city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The location is in the east of the Südstadt residential area in the Elberfeld district at an altitude of 181  m above sea level. NHN . The original settlement area is now built over with an apartment building and a bridge over the Blankstrasse .

Neighboring locations are Böhler Hof , Uellenberg , Sandhof , Böhle , Hinterm Holz / Vorm Holz , Kluse , Am Döppersberg and In der Mauer .

Etymology and history

Beck is a Middle Low German form for Bach, thistle goes back to the plant of the same name . The location arose from a farm that was mentioned in a document as early as 1480 as a thistle dike . In the 15th century the Kirchengut Distelbach by Elverfelde is called. In 1751 a coal mine was muted near Distelbeck . Operations were stopped again in 1752. On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 a place is recorded as Dusselbeck , on the Prussian first survey of 1843 as Distelbeck .

In 1815/16 the place had 72 inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the Fuhrter Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , was designated as in the Distelbeck and at that time had six residential buildings and twelve agricultural buildings. At that time 65 people lived in the place, seven Catholic and 58 Protestant faith.

The street Distelbeck was named in 1935, before that it was called Distelbecker Straße .
