The 2005/06 season of Division 1 , the second highest French ice hockey league , was won by Étoile Noire de Strasbourg , who rose to the Ligue Magnus . The Lions de Lyon and Castors d'Asnières were relegated to Division 2 .

In the main round, the 16 teams were divided into two groups. The four best-placed teams in each main round group qualified for the final round, the first-placed team being promoted directly to Division 1. The runner-up had to compete in the relegation against the penultimate of the Ligue Magnus. The four last placed in each main round group had to compete in the relegation round. The last placed in the relegation round rose directly to Division 2, while the penultimate of the relegation round had to compete in the relegation for relegation. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
