The Djebel Ressas ( Arabic جبل الرصاص; German: 'Bleiberg') is an approx. 4 km long and a maximum of 795 m high limestone mountain south of the Gulf of Tunis .
location
The Djebel Ressas is located about 30 km as the crow flies southeast of Tunis or about 10 km southeast of the city of Mornag in the immediate vicinity of the Djebel Boukornine . It towers over the fertile Mornag plain with its vines and olive trees. There is a cement factory in the southwest of the mountain.
geology
The limestone structure of the mountain , commonly regarded as the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains , can be found in most of the mountain ranges of Tunisia that belong to the Dorsal . Tiny skeletons of radiant animals have been found in the rock, indicating that the entire area was once below sea level and was lifted up by the forces of continental drift .
Ascent
An ascent of the summit is possible as part of a four to five hour trekking tour from the west side ( Mosquée Djebel Ressas ); however, there is no marked path. Below the summit there is a man-made cave system in which lead-containing rock was mined in the past.
