Isomers and occurrences

The docosadienoic acids can differ in the position of the double bonds in the chain and their configuration ( cis / trans isomerism ).

  • (13 Z , 16 Z ) -13,16-docosadienoic acid occurs esterified as triacylglyceride in small amounts in old varieties of rapeseed oil , rapeseed oil and in mustard oil , in fish oil and in various vegetable oils . In Winterling species ( Eranthis ) it occurs in concentrations of up to 55%.
  • (5 Z , 13 Z ) -5,13-docosadienoic acid is often found in species of marsh flowers ( Limnanthes ; e.g. in cuckoowort ).
  • (7 Z , 13 Z ) -7,13-docosadienoic acid and (7 Z , 15 Z ) -7,15-docosadienoic acid could be detected in mussels and sponges as well as in mushrooms.

Isomers with a trans-configurable double bond do not play a role.
