Doglio is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the Italian municipality of Monte Castello di Vibio in the province of Perugia in Umbria .

geography

The place is 4 km southwest of the capital Monte Castello di Vibio and about 35 km south of the provincial and regional capital Perugia . The place is at 489  m slm and in 2001 had about 100 inhabitants. In 2011 there were 77 residents. The closest places are the main town Monte Castello di Vibio (about 4 km northeast) and Todi (about 8 km southeast).

history

The name of the place is the dolium , here mostly used to store cooking oil (Italian olio ). In the Middle Ages, the place belonged as a castle to the Ghibelline Todi on the border with the Guelfan Orvieto . In 1291 there were 71 inhabitants in the place, in 1725 there were 155. At the end of the 18th century, Doglio became part of Monte Castello di Vibio. In 1828 the place had 224 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • San Salvatore , church in the town center, which was built in its current form from 1895 to 1905. The older church was across the street and was documented in 1824. The floor of the church was changed in 1965, it was changed from terracotta to Pietra di Trani . The church was last restored in 2012.
  • Porta Fuja , fortified gate from the 14th century. The second defensive gate of the fortification was the main gate on today's Via Rimembranza and no longer exists.
