John Dolmayan
John Dolmayan (born July 15, 1973 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is an American drummer of Armenian origin.
He became known primarily through his participation in the metal band System of a Down . In this he played drums alongside Serj Tankian , Daron Malakian and Shavo Odadjian after the band sacked their original drummer in 1997.
Shortly after System of a Down announced a hiatus, Dolmayan joined the band Scars on Broadway founded by Daron Malakian .
Life
Dolmayan first moved from Beirut to Toronto before meeting Tankian, Malakian and Odadjian in Los Angeles , becoming friends with them and joining the band System of a Down .
Playing the drums had been his dream since he was two years old. When his father gave him his first used “Rogers” drum kit at the age of 15, he also played in various bands.
Until February 24th, 2009 Dolmayan played together with bandmate Daron Malakian from System of a Down in the band Scars on Broadway .
In addition to his work as a musician, Dolmayan deals with rare comic books. In March 2009, he bought a copy of the first Superman comic from 1938 for $ 317,000 at an Internet auction . This is one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book.
