The La Pierre Laye dolmen in Vauxrezis north of Soissons dates back to the Neolithic Age and is (next to the Caranda dolmen ) one of the few monuments of this type in the Aisne department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Dolmem La Pierre-Laye

The dolmen is located on a dirt road at Vauxrezis near the Roman road that runs from Brunehaut via Soissons to Boulogne-sur-Mer and Great Britain . It was discovered in 1841 and excavated in 1850. The skeletal remains of about 20 people were found who were on a pavement.

It is a wide stone table consisting of 10 stones of different sizes that form the supporting stones of an approximately one meter high, slightly trapezoidal chamber of approximately 3.5 × 2.0 m, which is only partially covered by a triangular capstone. The ceiling plate measures approximately 3.6 × 2.35 m. Other small capstones and the mound that once covered the megalithic complex have disappeared.
