Dolmen de la Pierre Chaude

The Dolmen de la Pierre Chaude ( German  the hot stone ) is located between the D 100 road and the Brignon River , near the hamlet of Le Châtelier , in the Paulmy municipality and 600 m east of Neuilly-le-Brignon in the Touraine in the Indre-et department -Loire in France . The Cruz-Menquen dolmen in the north of Carnac is nicknamed "Pierre Chaude". In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The dolmen had a fully enclosed polygonal chamber consisting of six orthostats (five approximately in situ ). Three of them still carry the rest of the massive capstone, which is tilted inwards and rests at an angle.

The excavation of 1887 revealed human and animal bones, ashes, charcoal, broken glass, and worked stones; which were dated to the middle Neolithic (around 3500 BC).

The Pierre Chaude is made of sandstone and measures approximately 2.0 × 2.4 × 2.7 m. It is considered the fairy seat and sacrificial place of the druids . The access to the east could have been connected to a corridor, which, however, like the hill, has disappeared.

The dolmen is classified as a monument historique .
