The dolmen la Pierre-Levée is located in a field east of the center of Neuville-de-Poitou near Poitiers in the Vienne department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The Neolithic dolmen Pierre-Levee, built from sandstone slabs, has been a historical monument since 1900. The dolmen used to be part of a megalithic area , which consisted of several dolmens and a menhir . The broken capstone of the dolmen is about 7.5 m long and 4.0 m wide. Its thickness is about 90 cm in the middle. It rests on nine supporting stones ( orthostats ). The dolmen was originally covered with stones and earth that formed a hill called a tumulus .

The once neighboring menhir of Pas-de-Mule was destroyed during the French Revolution .
