Chiroux dolmen

The Chiroux dolmen (also called Pierre-Levée ) is an Angevin dolmen (portal dolmen ). It is located south of Plaisance in the Vienne department in France and was classified as a Monument historique in 1986 . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The Angevin dolmen is located on a hill. It is trapezoidal in shape, around 5.0 m long and up to 3.2 m wide. A slab about 6.0 m long lies above the chamber formed by five supporting stones.

Originally the dolmens were covered by an artificial hill made of stones and earth. The hill, called the tumulus , has been eroded and only its largest stones remain.
