The Maurély dolmen, looted in 1963/64, is located southwest of Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon near Aix-en-Provence in the east of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ). The dolmen was excavated by Jean Courtin in 1966 and restored by Jean Pigeard de Gurbert in 1970.

The chamber has the shape of a trapezoid, 4.18 m long and 2.2 m wide in the front and 1.45 m in the rear. The end plate ( French Dalle de Chevet ) is 1.7 m wide and 1.0 m high. Each side consists of three orthostats and four sections of dry stone masonry . The north side could be restored thanks to the intact foundation walls. The three ceiling panels that were broken off during the looting could not be replaced and are located near the north side. All slabs are made from local limestone . The floor tiles of the chamber have been restored. A corridor cannot be recognized, but its existence is possible. The round hill had a diameter of about 12.0 m. It is leveled and merges with the natural gradient.

Finds

Human bones and grave goods were collected by B. Pouyé in the destroyed facility during the excavation in 1965. The bones show no signs of burns. The destruction did not allow any anthropological statements, but many teeth could be collected.

The tools consist of two large blades and fragments of banded flint blades and six arrowheads . In addition to 24 steatite beads , a green stone bead , a bone bead , two quartz crystals, a reddish stone ring and a copper bead were found.
