Lost in Space - Lost in Space (original title: Lost in Space ) is an American science fiction series based on the television series Lost in Foreign Worlds broadcast in the 1960s . The ten-part first season of the series was released worldwide on April 13, 2018 on Netflix . The stranded family name, Robinson, refers to Johann David Wyss' 1812 book Der Schweizerische Robinson .

In May 2018, Netflix ordered a second season, which was released on December 24, 2019. The third and probably last season will be available on Netflix in 2021.

action

The series is about the adventures of the Robinson family, who are on the journey to repopulate the solar system " Alpha Centauri ". The project called “A New Beginning” is being promoted by the earth because it seems more and more uninhabitable, so there has long been no blue sky there.

On its journey, the Resolute , as the settlement ship is called, is attacked by alien robots and partially destroyed. Some of the new settlers, including the Robinsons, can take refuge in rescue ships and thus escape death. The ship of the Robinsons, the Jupiter 2 , enters it into a wormhole and is then "the universe lost" (English: Lost in space). After they, like other escape ships ( Jupiter s) and the Resolute , fell through the wormhole, the Jupiters stranded on a planet that they gave no name to.

After intelligent alien androids attack the Jupiter Mission 24 spaceship Resolute , which was supposed to bring scientists and colonists to Alpha Centauri , the rescue ships are thrown into a wormhole, with some of the ships crash landings on an Earth-like planet. The Robinson family's spaceship, Jupiter 2 , crashes into a shallow glacial lake and sinks to the ground. Eighteen-year-old Judy, the oldest Robinson child and the missionary doctor, dives to the sunken ship to fetch a battery, but is trapped in the ice as the water freezes through the night. With five hours of oxygen in the tank of her suit, Judy tells her sister Penny how to treat her mother, who was injured in the crash. John, the father and mission leader, and Will, the Robinsons' youngest child, set out to collect magnesium that will melt the ice and free Judy. In a cave, Will falls into an icy abyss and lands on the edge of the forest. John broadcasts Will that he will return to him after saving Judy. Will meets an alien robot and his crashed ship in the forest; he befriends him by helping him repair himself before a forest fire hits them. The robot takes a humanoid form to relate to Will and rescues him. The family tries to free Judy by melting the ice, but a sudden downpour hinders their progress. Will and the robot arrive and the robot saves Judy. In a flashback, a woman, June Harris, steals the identity of Dr. Zachary Smith and board a spaceship with Don West and Tam Roughneck.

Don West, Dr. Smith and Debbie the chicken survive their crash landing, but Tam does not. Don spots a parachute in the distance and heads off with Smith and Debby to look. You find Angela who is barely alive. When they see distant smoke that could be Angela's wrecked ship, they set off with Don carrying Angela. When they seek shelter from a storm, Smith offers to seek help while Don stays with Angela. Meanwhile, the robot appears at Robinson's sunken ship to lift it. Penny notices a distant explosion and realizes that it is another Jupiter vehicle. Maureen and John go there and find the robot ship nearby too. A holographic map of the planet is activated and you learn that you are in an unidentified galaxy. Meanwhile, Will experiences a psychological connection to the robot and sees the fighting aboard the Resolute . The connection breaks and Will question the safety of the robot. Because he can't remember anything before he crashed, Will thinks his system may have rebooted. He decides not to tell his parents about his vision.

In a flashback, Smith is revealed as June Harris, the older sister of Jess Harris, a successful businesswoman. Jess bequeaths her property and house on earth when she tries to leave it with the Resolute . However, June thwarts this plan, drugged Jess and removed her subcutaneous ID chip, with which she wants to smuggle herself onto the ship in her place, then she treats Jess and takes over her identity. She is arrested at check-in, but escapes during the robot attack.

In the present, Smith is on the Robinsons' ship and discovers that the robot responds more to Will's emotions than to his commands. She wants to use this state to free herself and Will from the storage room in which the robot has locked her. His plan was to protect Will from fuel-guzzling eels that have invaded the ship. However, John can kill all the eels in the ship and the Robinsons can escape from the ice with the remaining fuel. You land the ship on the edge of a temperate forest area. There your radio works again and you can receive a message from Resolute letting you know that the remaining crew is looking for you. Meanwhile, the robot hacked the 3D printer and made a pistol to protect Will. He hands it to Will. He hides them under his mattress, but does not notice that he is being watched by Smith.

Don West and Angela are rescued by the biologist Hiroki Watanabe and his family. Hiroki then meets John and Maureen in his ship, the Jupiter 11 , where Judy treats Angela. Angela tells her that the attack on Resolute left 63 survivors and 27 injured, but 13 rescue ships landed safely. However, none of the ships can fly because the eels have also eaten their fuel. John notices that one of the ships is not from the Resolute , and he and Don and his wife set off to examine it for any useful technical equipment. When they arrived at the crash site, they found the resolute's detached communications satellite dish . They deduce from this that the ship is now "deaf" and that they cannot contact the crew, nor do they know anything about the survivors. Meanwhile, Judy finds out the robot's secret about the attack, confronts Will with the information, whereupon the latter flees with the robot to hide it in a distant cave. Judy runs after him and later Penny too. However, they do not notice that Dr. Smith also follows. On the way they meet a group of survivors, but hide from them so that they do not discover the robot because they think it is the enemy. The boy Vijay loses an important letter, turns back and comes across the group of four. So that he does not tell the others and his father, the group leader, about the robot, Penny blackmailed Vijay with it and thus obliged him to keep quiet. They both separate and the children reach the cave. Since it is already too dark to return to the ship, they decide to spend the night there. The next morning, for fun, they left the message “The Robinson were here” (Original: THE ROBINSONS WERE HERE) with their handprints on a wall. The robot imitates them and also leaves a handprint. Judy recognizes that the robot must have changed its nature and is no longer dangerous. When the children are on their way back, Dr. Smith goes into the cave, speaks to the robot and tries manipulatively to win his favor and obedience for a later date.

In order to make themselves noticeable to the crew on the Resolute , the survivors build a "light tower" that is supposed to send an intense beam of light to the ship. Meanwhile, Maureen, hanging from a weather balloon, explores the stratosphere and discovers that there is a wandering black hole behind the sun and that it is approaching the planet. Meanwhile, Penny and Judy convince Will that he needs to talk to his father about the robot. However, he has not yet found the courage to do so. Penny flirts with Vijay, with whom she fell in love.

A flashback shows the Robinsons in a discussion where they discuss the pros and cons of the trip to Alpha Centauri . All travelers are required to take an aptitude test, which Will fails the first attempt. Maureen comforts him, and Will eventually insists, so the Robinsons can travel with them.

Don, whose smuggling activities became known, speaks to Judy and expresses his suspicions about Dr. Smith's real identity. When Judy Dr. When Smith is confronted with it, she denies this with a lie and in turn directs the suspicions on Don and puts him in a bad light. When the light tower is activated, Dr. Smith removes the security fence that surrounds the camp. Two large creatures frighten the survivors as they climb the tower to eat the moths that have gathered, destroying it in the process. The creatures now turn to humans. Dr. Smith convinces Will to call the robot. He can initially fend off the two creatures, but stops when it occurs to him that Will asked him not to harm anyone. Only when he asks him urgently to defend himself does he kill the creatures and thus save the group, which now knows of his existence on the planet.

In response to John's question about her knowledge of balloon flight, Maureen explains the function of a binary star system and the black hole she discovered . She explains that the black hole brings the planet in its orbit closer to the sun, which at some point makes the planet uninhabitable. When John's question about the timing, Maureen replies that she needs to do more detailed calculations. Meanwhile, the survivors discuss how to proceed and how to handle the robot. When Angela is asked about the robot, however, she can only answer emotionally (through the loss of her husband), but not informatively. The contrasting experiences with the robot lead to tension in the group, whereupon Angela leaves the meeting room. Outside by Dr. Smith, who, lying and manipulating to gain Angela's trust, tells her that she has lost someone too. Smith pretends to be a psychotherapist, as he has done several times before, and offers Angela help. The group has decided that the robot can stay, but there are some rules and conditions attached. During a walk in the forest, Angela finds the one Dr. Smith stole gun. She contacts Dr. Smith and asks for a session in which she would like to process her experiences with the attack. Meanwhile, Don and Victor, the leader of the survivors and Vijay's father, left for the crashed Jupiter 11 to recover the fuel that was still there. They find it buried on the edge of a canyon, where it threatens to slide. Just before the ship slips, Don finds Zachary Smith's original ID card, which also includes his photo. Angela goes to Jupiter 2 with the gun to kill the robot. John places himself protectively between the two. She shoots, the robot becomes angry and runs towards Angela, injuring John. Will can stop him at the last moment, leads him to an abyss and asks him to jump down there, which he does and smashes against the cliff. It is the place where Will and his father erected a tower made of 26 stones to commemorate the dead in the attack.

Don West finds and gives Judy Robinson the real Dr. Smith, whom he had previously found in Jupiter. At the same time, the origin of the weapon Angela used to kill the robot is clarified by Will Robinson and Maureen and John Robinson want to clarify how Angela got the weapon. They set off from the Watanabes to Jupiter and, due to a seismic quake, get into a tar pit with their chariot. The chariot sinks with them in the tar pit, from which they can free themselves with the help of the helium balloon.

When transporting the fuel back from Jupiter, Victor's team has to drive through a field of geysers, as there is no other route. Here you only have a short time window between the outbreaks in order to be able to safely pass the field. When crossing the field, a control cable loosens from the Chariot with the fuel trailer, which causes the vehicle to slow down. In a daring action, Evan reconnects the cable, but there is an accident with the tanker truck, in which Evan gets under the tank and is seriously injured. Judy decides to save Evan's life and risk losing fuel as the fuel will spill when the tank is raised. Judy makes this decision against Victor's orders to definitely secure the fuel that will secure them off the planet. On the way back, Evan dies of internal injuries. Victor realizes that there won't be enough fuel for all ships. Dr. Smith gathers the remains of the broken robot and tries to reactivate it, but it does not succeed. Meanwhile, Victor learns from his son Vijay that the planet will die and wants to leave the planet with his Jupiter 4 without the others.

Upon their return, John and Maureen Robinson prevent Victor from leaving the planet with his Jupiter. They tell all settlers about the dying planet and develop a plan that a pilot should leave the planet with a greatly reduced mass Jupiter. The pilot's choice first falls on Naoko Watanabe, which is very easy; However, the planned expansion is not sufficient and the life support system must also be expanded. Maureen also learns from her daughter Judy about the fake Dr. Smith and lock them up in the camp. Dr. Smith threatens that she manipulated the modified Jupiter. Together, the Robinsons decide that John Robinson should take over the planned mission. While preparing for the flight, the family received a radio message from the Resolute that it would leave its orbit around the plateau 24 hours later. Since Don West points out further problems Jupiter has in exiting orbit, he is persuaded to accompany John Robinson on the flight.

Contrary to his parents' instructions, Will Robinson talks to Dr. Smith, who shows him the head of the robot and explains that he can get it back. While his father and Don are starting up, he lets Dr. Smith is released and imprisoned by her. Dr. Smith knocks out Maureen, who gives instructions to the men and in the final scene the settlers see Jupiter explode in the sky.

After the explosion, Dr. Smith kidnaps, forcing her to show her the way to the robot's spaceship. Will tries to get his father through a signal and his sisters explain to him that the ship has been destroyed. In his anger, Will destroys a stone given to him by the robot in the cave and discovers that it is excrement. He has this confirmed by Hiroki Watanabe, who also explains that it can be used to make fuel. He also explains that it must be the excrement of a top predator. The settlers examine the cave and find more excrement, including some very fresh ones. Under the blanket they discover the polluters who use the cave as a sleeping place. They decide to dig up the dung and try not to wake the animals.

Meanwhile, Judy tries to get her mother and Dr. Smith and can locate the chariot they are using. Dr. Smith explains to Maureen that she wants to revive the robot and return to Resolute with him as protector. Together they both discover that the spaceship has a strong source of charge and they find an explanation for why the robot attacked the Resolute: The builders of the Resolute stole the engine from the aliens and the robot was ordered to retrieve it. In the cave, Will suddenly receives radio signals and uses them to wake the animals on the ceiling; they are pterosaur-like and blind animals that attack the settlers. Several settlers, including Watanabe, Penny, Vijay and Angela stay behind in the cave and cannot escape because of the animals. After they manage to do this through a plan from Angela, Will tells his sister that her father has answered and is still alive.

Judy manages to find Dr. Overwhelm Smith. At the same time, the robot regenerates itself due to the energy of the spaceship and is controlled by Dr. Convinced Smith to stop Judy and her mother's chariot.

While John Robinson and Don West float in a piece of debris in space, the settlers continue to take care of fuel production and leave the planet. Dr. Smith returns to the Robinsons' Jupiter with Maureen, Judy and the robot, and Will discovers that the robot is no longer listening to him. When a volcano erupts near Jupiter 2, the Robinsons decide to take off and look for John in orbit around the planet. They receive a radio message from Resolute, which gives them a short window of time before it leaves orbit. Maureen manages to deceive Dr. Isolate Smith and the robot in a shelter. Shortly before they manage to reach the piece of debris floating in space with a harpoon, Dr. Free Smith and the robot and sabotage the experiment. They flee to the storage room and are followed by the robot. In battle, they manage to catapult the robot out of the ship through the open hatch, but shortly afterwards it comes back together with a second robot and an alien spaceship. When Will's suit gets torn in the next fight, the robot saves him and he fights the second one, with whom he throws himself into space. When the hatch does not close, Will climbs out and closes the hatch. On the way back he falls into space, but is caught by his father, who with the one of Dr. Smith has returned from the harpoon. Back on the ship, they are drifting towards the Resolute that has been waiting. Shortly before docking, however, an alien drive takes over the ship and hurls the Jupiter through a wormhole into another part of the galaxy. Will identifies a drawing of the robot in the sun constellation and ends the season with "Danger".
