Peyralade dolmen
The Dolmen of Peyralade (also called Peyrelevade or Dolmen of Vaour ) is located north of Vaour south of the Aveyron River in the Tarn department in southern France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The dolmen, the largest in the Tarn, is about 2.0 km from Vaour in the direction of Saint-Antonin in the eponymous village of La Peyre on a traffic island. The approximately 5.0 × 3.0 m large broken capstone lies high above the ground on two long side support stones (and four additional modern supports) that form a south-east facing chamber measuring approximately 4.0 × 2.0 m. Traces of the burial mound , which was once built around 2000 BC. The dolmens built in BC are still visible.
The dolmen is listed as a monument historique .
