The dolomite striped fern ( Asplenium seelosii ) is a representative of the striped fern ( Asplenium ) that occurs in Central Europe only in the Alps . It is named after the Tyrolean engineer Gustav Seelos (1831–1911), who discovered the species for the second time on the Schlern in South Tyrol.
features
The dolomite stripe fern reaches heights of 2 to 10 cm. The fronds are long-stalked and have glandular hairs on both sides and are dull. The blade is threefold, three-edged or three-columned and clearly set off from the frond stem. The leaf sections have a rhombic or wedge-shaped leaf shape extended at the base. They are serrated or serrated at the front, the lowest teeth can be very large. The sori stand in two rows, converging, the veil is eroded and serrated at the edge.
The spores ripen in July to September.
The chromosome number is 2n = 72.
distribution
The dolomite striped fern is rare in Central Europe and only occurs here in the Alps. It can be found in Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia, East and South Tyrol, and near Bad Reichenhall in Germany. In Austria it is considered to be potentially endangered. It grows on dry limestone and especially dolomite rocks, especially in crevices under overhangs. It is rare and limited to the montane altitude level . He is a character species of the Potentillion caulescentis association. Its distribution area includes Morocco, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria and Slovenia.
Systematics
One can distinguish between two subspecies:
- Asplenium seelosii Leyb. subsp. seelosii : It occurs in Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
- Asplenium seelosii subsp. glabrum (Litard. et Maire) Rothm. : It occurs in Morocco, Spain and France.
