Dolomitenstadt.at is a regional online magazine based in Lienz in East Tyrol . It is published by Dolomitenstadt Media KG . The publisher and editor-in-chief is communications consultant and political scientist Gerhard Pirkner. The focus of the reporting is local and regional news from the region around Lienz, but also current developments in Tyrolean and South Tyrolean regional politics . A print magazine "Dolomitenstadt" was published between 2011 and 2017 and discontinued with the 2017 winter edition.

distribution

According to its own information, Dolomitenstadt.at has around 100,000 users and more than a million page views per month. From the start in September 2010 to February 2019, around 16,000 articles and more than 20,000 reader comments were published. The online medium enables readers to comment anonymously under the individual articles, which occasionally leads to controversial discussions about developments and protagonists of local politics.

In addition to the latest news, Dolomitenstadt.at has published more than 550 videos on YouTube since it was founded , some of which achieved wide reach, such as a video about the East Tyrolean krampus usage from 2014 with around two million views. Dolomitenstadt.at also received national attention through reporting on the deportation of the Magomedov family living in Lienz, whose fate was reported in detail.

Mark

While the articles in the print magazine tend to be of high quality and detailed, the reporting on the magazine's online platform is relatively short and sometimes differs in quality. In particular, the articles written by the editor-in-chief (especially his comments on current business or political issues) stand out stylistically from the other articles.

In addition, selected articles on the online platform consist of a shorter introductory text segment, followed by a video report or picture gallery.

In addition to banner advertising, the online medium also offers an online job market, an event calendar and a free classified ad for the region . In addition, paid advertorials are placed, which are always marked as “tip” and “promotion” with the addition “ advertising ”.

Cooperations

Since the beginning of 2018 dolomitenstadt.at has been cooperating with the South Tyrolean news portal salto.bz. The two media link to contributions from the other portal. In addition to the main editorial team, Dolomitenstadt employs a team of predominantly young freelancers and organizes so-called “New Media Bootcamps” for journalistically gifted schoolchildren and students every two years.

Editorial policy

Dolomitenstadt.at declares itself to be an independent and liberal online medium, independent of political parties, institutions and interest groups. In his comments, the editor-in-chief is positive about Natura 2000 an der Isel and critical of the Mayor of Matrei, Andreas Köll .

criticism

In reports on Gerald Hauser in particular , the editor-in-chief tends to mix up journalistic tools. Personal influences and views are not always identified as such.
